How long is design registration valid?

Design registration in India is initially valid for 10 years from the date of registration. It can be extended for a further period of 5 years by paying the prescribed renewal fees, making the total protection period 15 years.

What is the difference between design registration and patent?

Design registration protects the aesthetic appearance of an article, while patents protect functional inventions and technical innovations. If a product has both unique appearance and functionality, it may be eligible for both design registration and patent protection.

Can I register a design that is similar to an existing one?
